HP OfficeJet 5742 Driver for Windows, Mac, and Setup Guide

HP OfficeJet 5742 is a printer designed for a home or small office. It adopts a rounded styling. This all-in-one printer can print, scan, copy, and fax. It comes with Wi-Fi as well as NFC built-in, making it excellent for wireless printing via mobile devices.

Design & Features

It comes with a clean control panel where the power button is one of the dedicated touch buttons or the part of the 68mm touchscreen. It has a set at a fixed angle. However, reflections are minimal. Because the screen is not too sensitive, you must be quite positive about your touches.

The low-profile ADF can take 25 sheets. However, this machine at the price cannot scan duplex. Then, the paper tray comes with a separate 15-sheet photo tray sliding along the top even though that can take 15 x 10 cm photo blanks only. For your information, the indent located in the bottom of the paper tray is quite shallow & can be hard to grip if you have sausage fingers.

Connections & Wireless

HP OfficeJet 5742 features USB & SD card slots that are hidden behind a pivoting circular cover. Since the USB socket is not PictBridge-compatible, no direct connection of digital cameras is possible.

This machine is designed to print from mobile devices, PC, or Mac. There is a USB socket located at the back. The wireless connections open up wider range of possibilities.

With HP’s ePrint, you can print remotely. However, Wireless Direct is the more immediate use where it enables direct printing from android or iOS devices. If you have Samsung Galaxy S5, iPhone 6, or other recent smartphones, you can make a quick connection through NFC. You just need to tap your mobile Smartphone on the HP 5742’s control panel. Then, the printer is available on your own mobile phone.

Print Speeds

The manufacturer rates this printer at 12 ppm for mono and 8 ppm for color. The color result is not so good. However, the mono duplex speed is great at 5.5 sides per minute.

The print quality produced by HP OfficeJet 5742 is very good where it delivers crisp, densely black text & bright, solid color graphics. Photo prints have realistic colors & plenty of detail. When it comes to costs, it is from 1.99 to 7.99 pounds sterling for 50 to 300 pages per month. With Instant Ink, it is very economical.
