Design and Features

This printer offers a quality finish as it comes in black & silver with green indicators. You’ll find neat touches. One of them is the fold-in tray for the ADF that acts as a dust guard when it is not used. Besides, the fold-down paper-out tray, located at the front, pops down automatically when you print, if you forget to open it first.

It has 2 different paper sources. Each of them can be configured for plain paper/photo blanks up to A4 in size. At the rear, this printer features a near-vertical tray that can take 150 sheets & comes with a fiddly paper support at the side. However, it also comes with a 150-sheet cassette located at the front.

You can choose between the 2 paper sources via a button on the front panel or through software. In addition, it is equipped with a CD carrier that slides in from the front of the printer.

Canon PIXMA MP830 has a control panel that comes with buttons in the top left-hand corner, starts & stop buttons for color & black jobs, a 4-way wheel, and fax quick-dual buttons below & on the right.

You’ll also find a 63mm LCD screen in between the 2 sets of buttons, for previewing photos from memory cards or from a camera directly, as well as for working through the printer’s menu system.

The LCD display does not look good with poor contrast and dowdy colors when previewing images. However, you can adjust the contrast in the settings menus & things then look more natural.

MP830 features sockets for USB 2.0 & a phone line. It comes offers full fax support & can send/receive color faxes with suitably equipped machines located at the other end of the line.

Print Speed and Quality

MP830 prints well from paper source & will copy to from the flatbed or the ADF. Text pages print fast. However, printing in color takes a bit longer.

Duplex printing belongs to a useful feature. It can also print a 15×10 cm borderless photo fast enough in 36 seconds only. Unfortunately, Canon PIXMA MP830 takes no faster than 57 seconds in normal print mode.
