Canon MB 2720 new addition to the company’s small-business inkjet line offers good output quality and paper handling for micro or home offices

This printer machine can print, copy, scan, and fax, as well as print or scan to a USB thumb drive. This matte-black printer weighs 26 pounds and measures 12.6 by 18.3 by 18.1 inches (HWD). The 500-sheet capacity is split between two 250-sheet trays that can take up to legal-size paper.

For two-sided printing, the MB2720 has an automated duplexer. It has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 20,000 pages and a suggested monthly duty cycle of 1,250 pages, which makes it ideal for a micro or home office.

A letter-size flatbed and a 50-sheet automated document feeder (ADF) sit atop the printer, allowing you to scan documents up to legal size. The MB2720 is limited to simplex (one-sided) scanning, unlike the Canon MB5420, which offers two-sided, single-pass scanning via its ADF.

Easy access to multifunction printer (MFP) functionality is provided via the 3-inch color touch-screen LCD incorporated into the beveled panel in front of the ADF. On, Home, Stop, a Back button with a back-arrow icon, and two Start buttons with diamond-shaped icons and black-and-white and color scanning are all physical buttons.

Mobile Printing and Connectivity

Canon MAXIFY MB2720 supports AirPrint and Mopria for direct printing from compatible iOS and Android devices, as well as printing through the Canon Print app. You may use Maxify Cloud Link to print photos from online photo albums, office templates, and more without using a computer, and to post scanned documents to Evernote, DropBox, Google Drive, and OneDrive directly from the printer.

It also supports Google Cloud Print, which allows you to print documents from any computer, Smartphone, or device with an Internet connection. A USB thumb drive port is located to the left of the output tray.

Speed of Printing

The MB2720 averaged 18.9 pages per minute (ppm) when printing the text-only (Word) portion of our new business applications package, with a first-page-out time of 6 seconds. The MB2720 averaged 8.2ppm when printing our entire business suite, which included PDF, PowerPoint, and Excel files in addition to the aforementioned Word document.

Canon MAXIFY MB2720’s speeds are marginally faster than the MB5420, which printed the whole suite at 7.8 pages per minute on average, 17.1 pages per minute for text-only printing, and a first-page-out time of 9 seconds.
