Brother MFCJ415W is an inkjet MFP that comes with an inbuilt fax & ADF designed for small businesses after a versatile machine for office tasks. This is not the easiest one and the output quality is also low. However, it can be a good budget option for printing low-quality documents & automated scanning/copying.

Design, Features & Specs

MFC-J415W comes with a 1.9” color LCD & simple interface. It seems too basic. But if you just use a printer to copy/scan documents, this machine is fine. However, you can only see a low-res photo preview if you print an SD card.

Its input tray offers a capacity of 100 sheets of A4 plain paper. Its output tray is slightly small, too, with only for 50 sheets. Then, the ADF on top of its flatbed scanner can handle 15 sheets, making it useful for digesting short multi-page documents.

Ink Capacity & Pricing

MFC-J415W uses 4 piezo ink cartridges: black, cyan, magenta & yellow. The black one can produce 400 pages of A4 while the color ones run out after 260 pages. The standard ink cartridges of Brother MFCJ415W are acceptable for small businesses that require low-quantity prints. Unfortunately, high-yield ink cartridges are not available.

Print Speed & Quality

This device prints acceptable-quality documents with its Draft mode. This mode also comes close to achieving the 33-ppm mono print speed. Then, color printing is fast at 28 ppm.

On Normal mode, print quality slows down & has an appreciable impact on color saturation & text clarity. So, MFC-J415W can be a good option for printing black & color documents in either Draft or Normal settings.

For printing postcard-sized photos using Normal settings, it takes around 2 minutes. The print quality is not as good as a home printer like Canon PIXMA iP4850. Here, this device can produce good color saturation. However, levels of detail are not as high as we expect.

In conclusion, Brother MFCJ415W is cheap enough considering its features such as wireless networking, an ADF, and good printing speeds for document in Draft quality. Unfortunately, its interface is overly simplistic. Besides that, it is also slow enough to print high-quality.
